Northern Colorado and head coach Kristen Mattio announced the hiring of Camille Perkins as Associate Head Coach.

Alongside coach Mattio for seven of the last eight years, Camille Perkins will make her way to Northern Colorado from West Texas A&M.

“I can’t express how thrilled I am to reunite with Camille and have her join our Bear family,” Mattio said. “Camille is very well respected across the region as an exceptional recruiter who excels at connecting and building relationships with her student-athletes. She has an eye for finding potential in young women and developing them. She has a relentless work ethic, which will help lay the foundation of our culture here at UNC.

“Camille has been a big part of our past success together and she will play a major role in driving our future at Northern Colorado. She is a leader who has a clear understanding of the game and how it should be played and taught. Camille truly understands all aspects of developing young women — from on-court development to strength and conditioning to nutrition and mentoring.  Her championship mentality, passion and drive will be instrumental moving forward. We are extremely blessed to have her join our Bear Family.”

As the Associate Head Coach for each of the last four seasons and the assistant coach for the three years before, the Lady Buffs continued its dominance in the Lone Star Conference. Helping West Texas A&M to its 19th regular-season title in 2019-20, Perkins has been an integral part of the program’s success.

“This is an opportunity to coach in a great conference while learning and growing with an exceptional and talented coaching staff,” said Perkins. “Coach Mattio and I share similar values and goals and that’s very important to me. I have coached with Mattio for seven years and the ability to continue that success at a different place excites me!

“This is a wonderful community here in Greeley, which will make a fun environment to recruit to. I get to be part of a special athletics program here at UNC and I can’t wait to get to work.”

During her time in Canyon, the Lady Buffs were the only school in the nation to reach the Elite Eight three out of the last eight seasons and made the NCAA Tournament in five of the last six seasons. West Texas A&M would’ve made it six in a row were the bracket not trimmed due to COVID-19.

Her guidance also extended into the classroom where the Lady Buffs were honored as a member of the WBCA Division II Team Academic Honor Roll.

A native of Groesbeck, Texas Perkins was an All-LSC player at Angelo State from 2008-2011. Averaging 17.2 points per game. Camille finished as the second all-time leading scorer in program history and set the school record in free throws made (573) and attempts (749).

Perkins would go on to be a graduate assistant with the Rambelles and was eventually promoted to assistant coach in 2013.
