Why do you hate Tom Brady?

The Eagles did it!  They did the unthinkable and took down the Hoodie, The Brady, Josh Micky D, the Dynasty….somehow, someway the Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl 52 on the back of a backup QB in Nick Foles.  This post is not to take anything away from the Eagles; they deserve every ounce of credit as they played a sensational football game and did something only Eli Manning and his G Men accomplished twice before.  Rather, this Deep Thoughts asks one simple question; why do you hate Tom Brady?

As soon as the game was over New England haters sang as one about the Patriots defeat and of course Tom Brady’s part in it.  You would think he didn’t throw for 505 yards (A SB record) or 3 TD’s vs. no INT’s.  You’d think he hadn’t won 5 other SB’s or was just named league MVP for the third time in his career.  I guess it goes to show you just how much a vast group of sports fans hate greatness.  I get it….rooting for the underdog is fun and seeing the unthinkable happen makes for a hell of a story at the water cooler the next Monday but  come on; What the Patriots and Tom Brady have accomplished over the last two decades has been a joy to watch, a sports story for the ages and a team that all of us will talk about, one way or another, for years and years to come.  Yet, as soon as the clock ran out, the haters erupted;  The cheating thing came up, obviously.  The fumble at the end insisted Brady was the sole reason behind their 41-33 loss.  Not Nick Foles playing like a hall of famer or Corey Clement making huge catches all night.  How about the run defense that gave up 164 yards on 27 attempts? how about 5 Eagles receivers with 50 yards or more?  Nope…it was Tom Brady.

Is it the good looks?  His supermodel wife Gisele? The fact he’s 40 and is still at the top of his game?  Or is it deflate gate, an act several qb’s used to talk about as “not that big of a deal”?  Whatever it is, perhaps I will never understand.  I am a Broncos fan but even I can step back and appreciate all that he has done for the game and his ability to perfect his craft.  He’s obsessed with football and makes it his sole focus.  No politics, no idiotic tweets, just football.   In a year that saw so many dividing lines and had so many fans begging players to “stick to football” you’d think Brady would be the poster child for that motto.  Yet, he’s attacked almost as much as Lebron James, an athlete that is controversial with his tweets and social media posts.  In the documentary “Tom vs. Time” we learned a bit more about just how dedicated the man is to film study and fine tuning his abilities.

No, Tom Brady did not get his 6th Championship….this year – but to act like his legacy is somehow diminished because of a 3rd loss in the SB is simply absurd.  If you hate Tom Brady, to each his/her own but I would get used to him being in more Super Bowls, get used to Gisele, get used to more stories about his new found fountain of youth and get used to more greatness.  I know many of you hate it……but hey, I’m sure the Cleveland Browns are in need of more fans.
