The Game
The long-awaited debut of Head Coach Ed McCaffrey as the 16^thhead coach in Northern Colorado history finally arrives on Friday night. The Bears opted out of the Spring 2021 season making it the team’s first game since November 2019.

Coaching Connection
Head Coach Ed McCaffrey will be going against a familiar face across the field from him in Karl Dorrell of CU. Dorrell was McCaffrey’s position coach from 2000-02 when McCaffrey was on the Denver Broncos.

Numbers to Know
16 – Ed McCaffrey became the 16th coach in Northern Colorado Football history in December of 2019.
650 – It will have been 650 days since UNC last played in a game after sitting out the 2020 season
65 – UNC’s 2021 roster features 65 Bears who have not yet suited up in the Blue & Gold
4 – Northern Colorado has four transfers from Colorado on its roster.

Coaches Show
The UNC Coaches Show is back again for the 2021 season with a new location. Catch the Voice of the Bears, Jerry Schemmel alongside Coach McCaffery and others from UNC Athletics every Tuesday from 6-7 at The GOAT Sports Bar starting August 31. The first coaches show will feature Head Coach Ed McCaffrey, linebacker Xander Gagnon and Senior Associate AD David Sabolcik.

2021 Schedule Tidbits
The 2021 Big Sky schedule is a rollover of what would have been the 2020 season.

After going 79 years without playing each other, Northern Colorado and Colorado square off for the second time in four seasons.

The non-conference schedule has a Southland feel to it. The Bears play both Houston Baptist and Lamar out of the Southland. UNC has faced HBU twice with a 2-0 record and it will be the first time facing Lamar.

What’s Ahead
The Bears are on the road again next week with a trip to Houston to face Houston Baptist. Northern Colorado’s first home game is September 18 against Lamar at 2 pm. Tickets for the home opener can be purchased now by clicking here.
