Kountz named ROAR Organic Big Sky Player of the Week

Daylen Kountz averaged 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists last week

GREELEY, Colo. – Daylen Kountz has been in the zone this season. That continued the past weekend helping him earn the ROAR Organic Big Sky Player of the Week honor. It is the second time this season Kountz has earned the honor.

The Big Sky’s leading scorer averaged 28.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists helping the Bears keep pace in the Big Sky race by defeating Sacramento State and Southern Utah. He shot an impressive 63.2% from the field and was 4-for-9 behind the arc.

For the year, he is averaging 21.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 52.9% from the field.

Kountz is currently on an eight-game streak scoring 20-plus points, he had 27 against Sacramento State and followed it up with 30 in a huge comeback win over Southern Utah.

He scored 16 of the team’s final 32 points in the 17-point comeback over the final [5:37] against Southern Utah including the go-ahead basket with 20 seconds left. Kountz finished the game with not only 30 points but added in seven rebounds, four assists and a steal. The 30-point performance was his third of the season.

In the team’s win over Sacramento State, Kountz scored a team-high 27 points along with six rebounds and tied for the team lead with four assists.

Kountz and the Bears hit the road this weekend to face Idaho State and Weber State on Thursday and Saturday, respectively before returning home to host Idaho State on Monday, February 21 at 6 pm. Tickets for the game can be purchased at UNCBears.com/Tickets.
