The wait is finally over; College football is here! And for UNC’s head coach, Ed McCaffrey, it couldn’t come fast enough. It’s been nearly 2 years since the University of Northern Colorado has played a football game and that was under former head coach, Ernest Collins Jr. Like much of the Big Sky conference, the Bears opted out of the makeshift spring season to better prepare for Fall 2021. Since then, they have had to replace their offensive coordinator (Dave Baldwin) with Ed’s son Max McCaffrey, welcomed a Michigan transfer at QB, also Ed’s son, Dylan McCaffrey and a handful of descent defensive transfers such as LB R.J. Potts.

After only 2 season as a High School football coach, McCaffrey will have to prove that he’s more than just a marketing gimmick. But Friday night will be no easy task as they go up against the Pac 12 coach of the year in Karl Dorrell.

As strange as Coach Dorrell’s first season was, unlike Coach McCaffrey, he at least had a season. The Buffs went 4-1 and earned a trip the Alamo Bowl where they lost 55-23. Buffs fans were pleased with their new head coach but now that a full season awaits, can Colorado do it again? They should handle UNC but a loss would be devastating and cause Boulder to press the panic button after year 1.

It’s Ed McCaffrey vs. his old WR’s coach Karl Dorrell…….should be a blast….for a bit anyway. Can the Bears hang in? Can’t wait to find out.
