The Game

The day is finally here! Head Coach Ed McCaffrey will finally lead the Bears onto the field at Nottingham Field on Saturday against Lamar at 2 pm. Hired December 12, 2019 McCaffrey makes his Nottingham Field debut 646 days later.

3 – David Hoage recorded three sacks against Houston Baptist, the most since 2017.

6 – UNC’s six sacks against HBU were the most since 2017 against Idaho State.

100 – Northern Colorado held a team under 100 yards rushing for the first time since September 3, 2016.

Scouting the Cardinals

• After drubbing North American 47-3 in the season opener, Lamar fell to UTSA 54-0 on Saturday.

• The Cardinals live heavily on the run averaging 166.0 yards per game. James Jones leads the team with 100 net yards.

•  Preseason All WAC DB Anthony Ruffin leads the team with 12 tackles on the year.  

• Lamar is a part of the newly reformed WAC. They are joined by Abilene Christian, Dixie State, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, Stephen F Austin, Tarlton State and next year Southern Utah,

• UTSA passed all over the Cardinals for 321 yards last week on their way to 427 yards of total offense.

Around the Big Sky

A week after the conference pulled off three FCS over FBS upsets it was a quieter week for the Big Sky. The conference has six teams in the top 25 or receiving votes.

What’s Ahead

The Bears stay home for a second week for their Big Sky opener. Northern Colorado will host fellow Northern, Northern Arizona on Saturday, September 25 at 1 pm.
