CSU Signs Josiah Strong For 2022-23 Season

The Rams add the 6-4 guard to the roster as a graduate transfer from illinois State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Colorado State has added 6-4 guard Josiah Strong (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park HS (Illinois State)) as a graduate transfer for the 2022-23 year. Strong will have one season of eligibility with the Rams as he picked CSU over California, Illinois State, Oklahoma, and Wake Forest in his final cut.
 
2021-22 (Illinois State)
Started 26 of the 33 games he played in, averaging 11.5 points (third on the team), 3.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals in 32.6 minutes per game (second on the team)… Shot 40.2 percent from the floor, a team-best 40.9 percent from the arc and 72.1 percent from the free throw line… His three-point percentage was the 25th best in NCAA Division I while his 2.58 makes per game was tied for 76th best in the country… Scored in double-figures 18 times last season, while scoring at least 20 points three times… Had 23 games last season with at least two three-pointers made, and twice made a career-high six three-pointers in a game last year… Scored a season-high 26 points in a win at Chicago State (Dec. 11)…
 
2020-21 (Illinois State)
Played in 22 games during the year with 18 starts … His 11.5 point per game average was third-most on the team, while his 39 three-point field goal makes were second-most on the team … Averaged 30 minutes per game, while also averaging 2.7 assists and 2.6 rebounds per contest … Scored in double-figures 15 times on the year, twice scoring 21 points, the first against UMass Lowell on Nov. 28 and the second time at Loyola Chicago on Dec. 28 … Dished out a career-high 11 assists against Greenville on Dec. 2 to go with 13 points for his lone career double-double … Made a career-high five three-pointers against Chicago State on Dec. 15, scoring 17 total points … Had a season-high six rebounds three times, on Dec. 2 against Greenville, Dec. 12 at Ball State, and Dec. 15 against Chicago State.
 
PRIOR TO ILLINOIS STATE (Iowa Western and Navy)
Was named a NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American after his 2019-20 season at Iowa Western… Was named as an honorable mention selection to the JUCOrecruiting.com top-100 player ratings… Averaged 17.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while at Iowa Western… Made 48.8 percent of his shots from the field, and 46.2 percent of his attempts from long range during the season… Scored in double-figures in 25 of the 28 games he played during the season including 13 games of 20 or more points… Tallied a season-high 29 points against Northeast Community College, making 12-of-23 shots from the field… Connected on at least one three-point basket in each of his games this season, including 19 games where he made at least three, including a season-high six three-point makes in two different games, on Dec. 10 against Southeast Community College and on Dec. 17 against Cloud County Community College… Dished out a season-high eight assists on Nov. 5 against Butler Community College, and had a season-high of seven rebounds against Indian Hills Community College… Played in 31 games in 2018-19 as a freshman for Navy, coming off of the bench in each, while averaging 10.5 minutes per game… Scored 96 points (3.1 per game) while dishing out 30 assists and pulling down 24 rebounds… Scored in double-figures twice, the first with 11 points at Lipscomb on Dec. 9 and the second at Lehigh on Feb. 9 with 10 points… Had season-highs of four rebounds and four assists during the year.
 
HIGH SCHOOL
Helped his squad win the state title as the team was ranked in the USA Today Top-25… Averaged 23.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game, as he was named All-State… Earned All-Conference honors during both his junior and senior seasons.
