Stonehouse Named to Ray Guy Award Watch List

Stonehouse enters the 2021 campaign as the FBS career punt average leader.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – As has become common place over his storied, All-American career, Colorado State punter Ryan Stonehouse was named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List on Wednesday.

Stonehouse has appeared on the watch list for the award, given to the nation’s top punter, every year of his career including his 2017 true freshman season when he was named to the award’s midseason watch list.

The senior from La Verne, Calif., is a three-time first-team All-Mountain West honoree who is the NCAA’s all-time leader in career punting average at 46.8 yards per attempt over 186 attempts. In 2020, he produced a 45.3 average on 26 attempts, with nine punts sailing 50 yards or better, placing eight inside the 20.

Stonehouse enters his final collegiate season with a half-yard per attempt lead for the all-time record which is currently held by West Virginia’s Todd Sauerbrun (1991-94) at 46.31 yards per attempt for attempts 150-249. Over the 250 punt attempt threshold, Baylor’s Daniel Sepulveda (2003-06) has the record at 45.24.

The 2021 season begins with a pair of home games as the Rams host South Dakota State (Sept. 3) and Vanderbilt (Sept. 11) on back-to-back weekends. The conference slate starts at home when they host defending Mountain West champion San Jose State on Oct. 9 for Homecoming and Family Weekend.
