Stonehouse, Patchan Selected Preseason All-Mountain West

Both were first-team all-conference picks in 2020

Preseason All-Mountain West Team | Preseason Team Predictions

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – For the second year consecutive year, Colorado State will have multiple representatives on the Preseason All-Mountain West team, which was released as the conference’s Media Day activities come to a close.

Punter Ryan Stonehouse and defensive end Scott Patchan were both selected in a poll of 25 media members who regularly cover the conference. For Stonehouse, the selection has become commonplace, as this is his fourth consecutive season making the preseason team.

The senior from La Verne, Calif., is a three-time first-team All-Mountain West honoree who is the NCAA’s all-time leader in career punting average at 46.8 yards per attempt. In 2020, he produced a 45.3 average on 26 attempts, with nine punts sailing 50 yards or better, placing eight inside the 20.

Patchan, a senior transfer from Miami, helped raise the production of the Rams’ pass rush in his first year. His 5.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss led the team and ranked him among the national leaders per game (third and sixth, respectively). Colorado State led the nation in averaging 4.0 sacks per game in 2020. With 22 tackles on the year, including 10 solo stops, he was named to the Bednarik Award Watch List earlier this week.

Colorado State has had at least one player selected for the preseason team since 2009 and multiple players selected in seven of the past 10 campaigns.

On Wednesday, Colorado State was picked by the media to finish fourth in the Mountain Division. The Rams were limited to just four games in coach Steve Addazio’s first season as COVID-19 protocols erased three games from a schedule pared down to eight games amid a global pandemic. Officially, the Rams conference record was 2-3, granted a win for the Utah State forfeiture. The Rams’ lone victory on the field came with a prize, as they regained the Bronze Boot by beating Wyoming in the Border War, 34-24.

Colorado State had 11 players earn All-Mountain West recognition at 12 spots at the conclusion of the season and all 11 of those players return.

The 2021 season begins with a pair of home games as the Rams host South Dakota State (Sept. 3) and Vanderbilt (Sept. 11) on back-to-back weekends. The conference slate starts at home when they host defending Mountain West champion San Jose State on Oct. 9 for Homecoming and Family Weekend.
