Try something new, Denver!

Sunday was rough. After Denver failed to score a point for the first time since 1992 ( I was 4) Denver fans are once again divided on who should be playing qb, rb and even coaching this football team.  Special Teams was bad, Trevor Siemian was bad, the O line was awful and the running backs were  even worse.  Defense was good.  They weren’t getting pic 6’s or anything game changing but how often can we really expect a defense to do that?  They were put in rough spots time and time again and only allowed the LA offense to score 14 (one punt return for a td).  So this week we put all of our focus on this offense that hasn’t been any good for going on 3 seasons…..dating back to the SB year.  Let’s face the facts here; the best Denver has looked since 2014 (Manning’s last really good year) was with none other than Brock Osweiler.  In 2015, after Manning went down, Osweiler played 8 games.  He had a 61.8 completion percentage 10 TDs and 6 INTs.  Manning that year? 59.8%, 9 TDS and 17 INTs.  How about Siemian?  last year in 14 games he managed a 59.1 completion percentage while maintaining a rating of 84 compared to Brock’s 86.4 in 2015.   Yea yea, I know…..Brock struggled in Houston last year but a season before that he wasn’t all that bad; the best Bronco QB from 2015 on.   In fact, Elway wanted him to stay in Denver but the dude took more cash from the Texans. So is it reasonabl to think he could be that good again, not 2 years later?  I’m not saying Brock’s the answer but at this point, something has to change and if it isn’t  the qb then why not……

…….bench CJ Anderson?  I’ve been after this guy a lot lately but bottom line is this:  he’s not a premier running back in the NFL.  He’s not a starter.  Jamaal Charles is and Devonte Booker might be.  I’ll take a might be over a NOT any day of the week.  After 6 games he’s averaging 4 yards per carry, 390 yards and 1 td.  Most of his BIG plays this year came from flat out huge openings (rare for this offense) but plays even a backup RB can make.  This line is bad, the main culprit in their 3 out of 4 losses, but CJ doesn’t have the ability to create space. He goes down quicker than most and can’t seem to catch a football before running.  Charles is doing much more with the limited amount of carries.  Charles has only had 32 carries compared to CJ’s 92. I know the Broncos were concerned about injuries with him but he’s cleared now.  Give him the rock.  As for Devonte Booker…you tell me…doesn’t he seem to hit the gaps harder than CJ?  The eye test tells me so but what do I know?  I do know that for 3 years now fantasy football players have been waiting for CJ to be the guy they drafted so damn high.  And whether an injury hits or the line is bad, CJ fails to deliver.  And now he’s hurting much more than your fantasy team.  Time to try a different combo, guys.
