MOUNTAIN WEST SENDS TWO TEAMS TO 2021 NCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

LAS VEGAS – The 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament bracket is set with two Mountain West teams headed to Indianapolis. San Diego State, the Mountain West’s automatic qualifier, earned a No. 6 seed, while Utah State received an at-large bid and a No. 11 seed.

The two NCAA Tournament bids this season marks the third time in the last four years the MW has had multiple bids.

San Diego State (23-4) will face No. 11 seed Syracuse (16-9) on Friday, March 19 in its first-round matchup. Tip time and television information will be released once available.

With this season’s appearance in the postseason, the Aztecs are into the NCAA Tournament for the 13th time in program history and 10th time since the Mountain West’s inception. This marks SDSU’s first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018.

Utah State (20-8) will play No. 6 seed Texas Tech (17-10) on Friday, March 19 in its first-round game. Tip time and television information will be released once known.

The Aggies are dancing for the second time in the last three seasons with USU’s last trip coming in 2019 after winning the MW Championship. Overall, Utah State has 22 NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.

USU earned the Conference’s automatic bid in 2020 before the postseason was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Colorado State (18-6) is the No. 2 replacement for the 2021 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament and will enter the field if a team from a multiple-bid league tests out.
