GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado and Eastern Washington men’s basketball traded blow for blow in another slugfest on Saturday afternoon inside Bank of Colorado Arena. The Eagles edged out the Bears 82-76.

Saturday’s game featured 20 lead changes and six ties with little breathing room for either team.

Matt Johnson II led Northern Colorado is scoring for the sixth straight game with a career-best 23 points alongside four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Meanwhile, Bodie Hume passed the 1,000 points scoring mark for his career with his 13 points. Hume becomes the 23rd member in program history to achieve that feat. He added in four rebounds, three steals and a block to his stat line.

Northern Colorado held a 30-27 lead at the break thanks to some strong defense. The Bears forced EWU to 38.2% shooting and had five steals while turning the Eagles over nine times.

UNC closed the half on an 8-0 run, Hume scored the last five.

The Bears pushed their lead to nine points early in the second half, but Eastern Washington chipped away at it and then reclaimed it with a 17-5 run with 10 minutes left.

Johnson II caught fire down the stretch for UNC scoring 10 straight points to keep the Bears neck and neck with the Eagles.

A quick 7-0 run from EWU gave them enough room to secure the win from the charity stripe.
